Ask the Artist: Selena Gomez answers fans' questions

Selena,
My daughter and I love your song, "Who Says." You are a role model for so many young girls today, and I would like to ask if you wrote this song yourself? Who was your inspiration? From a parent to a child, this song would be perfect for a wedding or special occasion. Every lyric . . . is what pours out of a mother's or father's heart. . . . With such an emphasis on superficial beauty today for young girls, your feel-good song is most inspiring. When I hear my daughter singing this song as loud as she can, I think to myself, "Yes, Kristen, don't ever let anyone tell you you're not perfect!" Good job, Selena! -- Julie Gatrell, Wellsville, Ohio
Julie,
I did not write "Who Says." It was actually written by Priscilla Rene and Eman. When I heard the song, I completely fell in love because I can relate to it and I know my fans can relate to it. I fought for this song, because I'm passionate about this song and what it does for my fans.
Selena,

My boys love the "Wizard of Waverly" place show. They want to know, if you were really a wizard, and had one spell to cast, what would be that spell be? Thank you, Owen & Evan -- Michael Gervace, Twinsburg

Owen & Evan,
I would use the rewind spell because it would be great to be able to go back and fix something if I mess up.
Selena,
I am made fun of and so is my friend because we both wish to become performers like you. Were you ever tormented, made fun of, or bullied because of your dreams? -- Samantha Scholl

Samantha,
I was bullied every second of every day in elementary and middle school. Obviously, people are going to bring you down because of your drive. But, ultimately, it makes you a stronger person to turn your cheek and go the other way. It's nice that you have a best friend to go through this with. I had a best friend to go through that with and it really helped me ignore negative things I was hearing. So, don't take no for an answer and keep going.
Selena,
As the parent of an eight-year-old, I love the message behind "Who Says." My daughter is an aspiring model/actress who has been signed to an agency so I would love to know how your family kept you so well grounded when your career started taking off? I really want my daughter to realize that while it is something special she gets to do it is still only a part of her life. -- Rebecca King, Parma

Rebecca,
My mom made it very clear that nothing in my life was going to change. A lot of people around me said that once I started to work on the Disney Channel, people would start looking at me differently. One thing was always perfectly clear though. My mother was not going to look at me any different. She still made me do chores, and school work. She has always reminded me that it is a privilege to get to do what I love to do. So, keeping that in mind, every day was just a normal day to me. I just feel lucky to do what I do.

Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez have adopted a puppy, they went dog shopping in Winnipeg yesterday, reports HollywoodLife. The chose a husky cross puppy from D’Arcy’s Animal Rescue Centre in Canada. They were both very down to earth and friendly.'
UPDATE: Jelena took to the ice at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg following Saturday’s 5-3 win by the Jets over the Carolina Hurricanes. Both wore Jets jerseys, Just took several shots on goal and didn’t skate too badly: 'After circling the ice a few times holding hands, Gomez didn’t skate much at all preferring to watch Bieber. The few remaining people in the arena were told not to take pictures and to clear out quickly.'

Selena talks about charity work & being followed by paparazzi

Here's a interview with Selena about being followed by paparazzi & charity.

Source: We met actress and singer Selena Gomez when she was in Manhattan recently.

Q: What are your ups and downs of being a celebrity?
A: The ups are getting to meet cool people like you. And I get to travel and meet my fans and do what I love, which is very important to me. And the downs are it gets a little crazy sometimes for me. And sometimes I feel like I can’t be normal and people sometimes, like grown men following me with pictures. It’s very weird. I don’t like that part.

Q: Selena, it’s great that you are the youngest ambassador for UNICEF. Can you tell us about your experiences you have had and what you have learned from your travels?
A: Being a part of UNICEF is good for me. I feel I’m able to use my voice and my platform and my audience to educate them on issues that are going on around the world. I got to go to Africa. I got to learn how the families live there and how they view life and talk to them and they live in very different lives than we do and I think it’s really fun if we all knew what was going on in the world.

Q: Did you get to keep your wand from “Wizards of Waverly Place”?
A: Yes. I have it framed in my little box it says, Alex Russo, 2007 through 2011. I do have it in my house and it’s hung up. It’s been my wand for almost 5 years, so I’ll always have that with me.

Q: Do you write your own songs?
A: Yes and no. There’s a couple of songs I wrote on my album and there’s a couple I didn’t write. And what’s really fun about that, you’re able to have really fun messages and producers I’ve worked with that know me, that wrote songs that were about my life for me. It was really nice to see how people view my life and hopefully it’s songs that fans can relate to.

Q: Do you have any pets?
A: I do. I have five dogs and they’re all rescue dogs. We found two in a parking lot and then we found one our neighbor moved away and left him in the backyard. So that was very sad. And then I shot a movie “Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie,” as we saw a dog in Puerto Rico, he got hit by a car and we took him to the vet and took him home. So they’re all really nice. They’re very spoiled now.

Q: What do you love about being on the stage?
A: The connection with my fans. I love being able to sing my songs and see how my fans feel about the song. Like there’s nothing more amazing then seeing a little girl dancing to your song or hearing them sing your song louder than you. It’s a real powerful feeling.

Q: Do you watch yourself on TV?
A: Here’s what’s interesting. When my show (was on) I didn’t watch it. Now that my show’s over I miss it a lot. So I watch my show now. Because I’m like I miss everybody. I’m definitely guilty of that.

Q: What is it like to have paparazzi following you around?
A: That’s not very fun. You kind of want to live your life, you want to walk around and do what you want to do and it doesn’t help when someone’s like there in front of you trying to take a picture. You’re like, “Please leave me alone.” So that’s kind of a bummer. I don’t really like it. I try to get away from it.

Q: What is it like being in so many TV shows and movies?
A: It’s fun. I love my job. I love acting, I love pretending to be someone and dressing up and kind of traveling, meeting new people. I love that. So I have a great time.

Q: What kind of music do you like?
A: I love every kind of music. I love hip hop, pop, rap, country, classical. I kind of like a lot of music.

Q: How and when did you get started with your career?
A: I was 7 years old and I did “Barney.” I did that for two seasons. It was really fun. And then when I was about 11 or 12, Disney Channel found me and did a lot of auditioning and a lot of commercials and after doing a couple of failed shows, I got into “Wizards of Waverly Place.”

Selena Gomez Serious DEATH THREAT

Justin Bieber’s girlfriend Selena Gomez has received a death threat that is so serious … the LAPD’s Threat Management Unit is on the case, and Selena has obtained a restraining order … this according to court documents.

46-year-old Thomas Brodnicki — a man with a criminal history of stalking — allegedly told his shrink he was going to kill Selena.

According to the declarations of Selena and her lawyer, Blair Berk … Brodnicki told the shrink he traveled from Chicago to L.A. to meet her, visited her workplace at least 3 times and has told people he had conversations with God about killing her.

Selena says she is in “extreme fear,” believing he will carry out his death threat against her if he isn’t stopped.
Selena and her lawyer claim Brodnicki was picked up for mental evaluation last month after he allegedly threatened to
“scratch people’s eyes out on the street.” Brodnicki allegedly made the threats against Gomez during his mental evaluation.

According to court docs, LAPD detectives are taking the threats “extremely seriously” because of Brodnicki’s history of mental illness and making criminal threats.

Selena Gomez - MTV EMA's Youngest Host EVER!!

Selena talked to The Hollywood Reporter about hosting the EMA’s. I'm so so so excited!

The Hollywood Reporter: How does it feel to be the Europe Music Awards youngest ever host? Will the show feel different this year?
Selena Gomez: I'm really looking forward to it. It will be really fun to be on the hosting side of it and get to perform so it will be different for me an my band. I think it is interesting to have my fans be involved, to bring a whole different audience. Other than that I'm not sure it will be a whole lot different.
THR: How are you preparing for Belfast?
Gomez: We're doing a bunch of the creative stuff at the moment. I'm actually on tour right now (in Canada) but once I go over to Ireland I'll be doing a lot of rehearsals there. It'll be my first time in Belfast, so I'm excited to be there.
THR: You had a bit of a warm up hosting the pre-show at the VMAs in August.  How did that feel?
Gomez: We did the pre-show this year, and it was really fun and we got to do the whole concert and interview artists. It was a good time.
THR: What should fans expect from this year's show?
Gomez: With the promo that we released, its kind of the direction I want to go in. There will be fun and different and things people have never seen me do before
THR: Can you give us any hints?
Gomez: We're working on it creatively, so it's mostly about what kind of skits we are going to do, but I can't say more than that just yet.
THR: What kind of styling are you going for?
Gomez: I think I have a five-hour fitting or something ridiculous like that scheduled and we are going to go through that. We're going to try different outfits that I've never worn before and it's definitely going to be more about the fashion when it comes to my clothes and stuff.
THR: Who are you looking forward to seeing perform?
Gomez: I'm looking forward to seeing everybody perform. And I really like Coldplay, so I'm looking forward to them. I haven't seen them before.
THR: Will you be feeling nerves on the night?
Gomez: Oh yes. I'm already feeling it. I'm definitely nervous.
